Bruce Wants a “Clean Campaign”… His Supporters See It Differently

By Jerry | September 4, 2007

Last week Bruce Garraway announced his campaign for Mayor here in Snellville. After discussing his platform, he went on to say:

“Snellville has a reputation for nasty campaigns, but I don’t believe that any voter wants to see anonymous fliers, signs printed in secret and last-minute attacks on anyone. That just destroys Snellville’s reputation, and I’m not going to do that.”

While Bruce himself may not be personally attacking me or anything I have done for Snellville just yet, his supporters have already come out in full force. Just yesterday, two comments were made by a man named Norman Chambers on this website. Those comments did nothing but attempt to attack and slander me without any examples or facts to back his claims up.

The first attack came in response to the post: Bruce Announces Candidacy, Backed by Clower Supporters

Jerry, painting your opposition as being part of the “Old Guard” doesn’t fool anyone. The facts prove your disreguard for anyone but yourself. Time and again, you have tried to ram your personal desires down the throats of others. Snellville doesn’t need selfish people such as yourself in power.

As for Bruce, the facts prove he is concerned with everyone’s welfare. Perhaps being part of the “Old Guard” is as good as the “Old Time Religion”.

What facts are you talking about? What evidence is there of my “disregard” for anything but whats right for our city? Increasing the size and scope of the police department is anything but disregard for our city.

The fact is, Bruce Garraway has consistently supported the renaming of the Senior Citizen Center after former council member Wayne Odum. Odum was the right-hand-man for Emmett Clower for over a quarter-century and fought AGAINST the construction of the new Senior Center that Bruce wants to name after him – against the wishes of many who attend activities at the center I should add.

It is also a fact that Bruce Garraway has pushed for Randy Simpson to be added on as a member of the committee overseeing the 78/124 intersection project. Randy Simpson is also an undisputed member of the “old guard”

As for facts that Bruce is concerned with “everyones welfare” take a look at this list of events Bruce attended just in the month of January this year and ask yourself who’s best interest did Bruce have in mind? (these are all directly copied and pasted from Bruce’s website)

The second comment posted by Norman Chambers came ten minutes after the first one yesterday. This time it was in response to my post: Bruce Complains He’s Not “Old Guard”… But Then Why Does He Vote That Way?

Bruce is right on!

Oberholtzer has hidden his selfish personal agenda under the cloak of “agent for change” for too long. Yes, Snellville needs to change. However, it needs to change to meet everyone’s needs and not just Jerry’s!

Once again, Mr. Chambers fails to give any facts or examples to back up his claims of a “hidden agenda”. I have worked tirelessly for Snellville to make this a place we all can live and raise our families. For examples of this, all you need are the articles I have written here on my blog. From police, to parks and transportation, there is no “hidden agenda”. Traffic and Community Safety affect us all. Developing a downtown with restaurants and shops is not a personal goal, but an agenda for securing the future of our city as a vibrant center of activity.

Fortunately for Bruce and his supporters, I do not need to run a so-called “dirty campaign” to show which candidate is better for our city. I have eight years of progress on my side as well as the facts to back it up.

We are less than a week into the campaign, and already the baseless finger pointing has begun. I welcome citizen discussion to my website, but anything along the lines of the comments made by Norman Chambers will not be tolerated, as Bruce said “That just destroys Snellville’s reputation”

Thanks Norman! I anxiously await your presentation of the “facts”!

OK, so Mr. Mayor presents a few factoids concerning his stewardship of Snellville. Will the opposition please present some facts concerning the “selfishness” of the Mayor?

Maybe an even better idea would be to present solutions of where the opposition wishes to take Snellville. After all, if the Mayor is term-limited, what use is it to rhetorically brow-beat him? Snellville will have to have a new Mayor; why should its citizens vote for someone with no definable and objectively-critiqued solutions?

Quit trying to stir people up with banal, ad hominem remarks towards the current Mayor. That only serves the purpose of making the remarker out to be someone from the shallow end of the gene pool.

Get with the program and propose real solutions for real problems as you see them. This applies to the Mayor as well.
