Treadway hired as Snellville city manager

Snellville’s often-divided mayor and council came together Wednesday in a unanimous vote confirming an East Tennessee man as the new city manager.

After a four-month long and sweeping national search, Russell G. Treadway, of Elizabethton, Tenn., became the city’s leader Wednesday during a specially-called meeting at City Hall.

Treadway, who has more than 25 years in top-level management in local government, most recently served as city manager of Elizabethton, Tenn., just slightly smaller than Snellville. Treadway, with his wife sitting nearby, spoke to the board after he was officially hired.

“We’re greatly looking forward to moving to Snellville and tackling the challenges and opportunities,” he told the council.

After the meeting, Treadway told a reporter that he knew of the board’s history of heated disputes that sometimes lead to terse tones and name-calling, but he said he can handle it.

“It’s clear that there are disagreements from time to time, but they’re really concerned about the community,” said Treadway, who has met with the mayor and council as a group and individually. “With that foundation, we can move forward.”

Treadway bested 56 other applicants to win the appointment. He starts work Wednesday.

While I hope this guy succeeds, I would bet some serious money that Jenkins, Auld, and Kautz will be after him very soon. Yeah, they all voted for him, but that doesn’t really matter now does it. They voted for the City Attorney and now they constantly question his ruling and treat him like a first year law school student…because they think they know more. Last meeting they publicly bashed the City Clerk that has more experience, honesty, and integrity than 95 percent of the clerks in the state. The same will happen with Dr. Treadway…just a matter of time until he does his job that he was hired for and those 3 will go after him if he doesn’t bow to their every request. I hope I am wrong.
