A recount of the mayoral race in Snellville on Thursday afternoon confirmed the results posted on election night — incumbent Jerry Oberholtzer was returned to office as mayor.

Oberholtzer, who has been mayor of Snellville since 2003, said he wasn’t worried about the recount of the contest with his challenger, Vice Mayor Bruce Garraway.

“I had not doubts,” Oberholtzer said in a telephone interview. “We were able to beat him. We had a lot of people turn out on election day. We really did a great job.” - Click here to read the rest of this entry »

Election Re-Count Scheduled for 3pm Thursday at City Hall

By Jerry | November 7, 2007

Supporters,

As allowed by Georgia law, when an election is decided by less than 1% of the vote, the losing candidate my request a recount. Yesterday evening I learned that my opponent would be exercising this option.

Today I received official word from our city attorney Thomas Mitchell that the recount will be held at 3pm at City Hall tomorrow. Both candidates will be permitted to be present as well as one representative for each. (please DO NOT go to city hall to try and watch, etc!)

My opponent asked for a “hand recount”, but there is no provision of Georgia law to allow for a choosing of method. Therefore the vote will be recounted using the same optical scanners from the general election.

Please stay tuned to my blog as this story further develops, I will report here the results of the recount immediately after I receive word.

Election Totals, Thank You To My Supporters!

By Jerry | November 7, 2007

Totals:

I want to take a minute and thank all of you who took the time during this election to think about what’s important here in Snellville. We fought a hard campaign, we fought accusations and misinformation, and luckily for all of our citizens, enough of you saw through this mess and elected me for four more years.

Thank you to all my supporters and readers of my website. Every single vote counted in this election, and because of it, all of Snellville will benefit from the continuation of the positive progress we have been working on over the past eight years!

Go Snellville!
